Sailing Camp in July 2016

If you follow us you know that we love M.J. Leslie, an extreme athlete and recent Kite-Boarding Record Setter.  While we love him for being such an amazing athlete we mostly love him because of his heart.  M.J. loves his sport(s) but he loves sharing it with others more.

If you don't follow us, then let us catch you up.  We met M.J. when he "crash-landed" on the shores of Leaning Palm Resort 56 nautical miles from San Pedro, Belize.

This is what M.J. looked like when we first saw him.  As you can see from the photo it looks like whatever this is - well it looks like it is in trouble.

But M.J. was not in trouble at all.  After we all rushed out to rescue him he smiled and waved at us from the waves and said, "Hello!".  We soon learned that he was working to break a record to kite-board the Belizean coastline and after landing at Leaning Palm Resort had not only made a record, but soon ideas were forming.

We fed M.J. breakfast, spent some time getting to know him and are now under the spell of his charms.  He spent some more time at Leaning Palm Resort and decided to make a mark in this part of Belize. Leaning Palm Resort will be partnering with MJ to host a sailing and drumming camp in the summer for the kids of Gales Point Manatee.

The camp will run for 6 days from July 4th to the 9th and in addition to spending the days sailing there will also be some other fun activities like Coconut Bowling, Sand Sculpture Contests, Beachcomber Bingo.....We are going to have some fun!!

Contact us at info@leaningpalmresort.com to learn how you can contribute to MJ's dream.

In his own words here is M.J.'s dream:
" I fell in love with the pristine untouched beauty of the vast expanses of nature. It is the last place Belize remains untouched. The lush green tropical forest towers above the narrow sandy beaches where the little waves crash with energy every second as if power washing the shoreline. Hundreds of birds rule the sky! And watching them fly effortlessly above lush beach coastline with no man made structures for 20 mile stretches in either direction felt truly Jurassic. With the Mayan mountains hundreds of feet up into the western horizon. Looming behind the coastline like giants lying asleep. My adventure ended with the discovery of a passion that has been inside me for years. I was meant to kite to this place meet new friends and return to teach local kids the wind sports. Sailing, windsurfing and kitesurfing. I will be organizing, funding and doing a free week long sailing summer camp for kids in Gales Point, Manatee Belize this July. It will be hosted by my new friends at the Leaning Palm Resort Ken, Taunya and Nigel. Of course Mimi the pitbull too! Sail boats are being supplied by our Belize sailing center of San Pedro where I work. The name of the camp will be sail and sea summer camp and the slogan will be passion for the sea, wind and waves. In the months to come before summer is here. Nigel and I will attempt to refurbish a few forgotten small sail boats in the jungle in preparation of the camp. I plan on it being an anuall event. Love and support is already starting to pour in from around the country and the world. This is for the kids! I will teach them the gift I was born with, skills of the sea in hopes that they will teach me their natural skills with the Indeginous drums. The drumming circle is already built on site. Rite on the beach. Made by skilled hands from drift wood that washed on their shores. It can seat almost a dozen people and has a small rock lined fire place in the center. That's gona be where we spend our nights after long hot summer days sailing in the salty cool caribbean sea. Sunset drumming circles! Can't wait! Anyone that loves to have fun in nature is invited. Just message me at mjleslie50@yahoo.com for details. Peace!"
